I am using a Pentax K-3II DSLR (APS-C) and some old SMC Pentax manual lenses. One tip: I routinely have to use very small values for the Midpoint slider in LR & larger values of the Strength slider in RT than I expect. But I always check first to make sure what ever I'm using for a test flat works on the actual images - it doesn't always. Once I know what slider adjustments are required for the "flat", I apply that correction to my actual images.

I've started trying to make flats to use in the same way - not easy for WA. Sometimes the tiny jpg downloaded from LensTip is to pixelated to use for fine tuning devignetting. For my lenses, both programs barely have strong enough correction to completely devignette my images & my worst lens only has 2 EV of vignetting - I've seen far worse. I'm guessing Roger is bring in a flat for his lens into RT to do the same.įor LR devignetting means adjusting 2 sliders. I bring these tiny jpg into either LR or RT & make the vignette correction needed to effectively remove the dark corners.

Devignetting is a PITA in both.įor both, I've downloaded the thumbnails of vignetting for my lens from - a free flat. So I preprocess images before stacking in either LR & RT. But for some of my lenses its clear some profiles listed as having no devignetting actually do! Hopefully all this will be less problematic for you. LensFun used by RT has a list of supported lenses showing what corrections are made by the profiles.

In RT it can't be applied & an external profile can be selected. In LR, the EXIF correction can't be turned off. In either, I always use the available lens profile. This is unnecessarily complicated for Fuji in both LR & RT. Additional correction of vignetting is usually needed for Fuji.

Oly & Fuji mirrorless imbed some corrections in EXIF but those often do no completely correct distortion, CA or vignetting. Since you do not list your gear, I don't know if you are using DSLR or mirrorless. I'm guessing you are doing panos where having a good vignette correction is critical for getting good blends of the sky when stitching. Hey Alan, this is a problem I've struggled w/ in RT & LR but for different reasons. I don't understand what Roger means by "So I loaded the flat field as an image." This might be the vital step I am missing. So I loaded the flat field as an image and moved the vignetting settings around as shown in Figure 4b to flatten the field." On Roger Clark's page about using RawTherapee, in the caption for Figure 10 he says, "There was no lens profile for this lens, and the 6D2 is new, so the flat field correction failed in rawtherapee. What is the best way to do vignetting correction in RawTherapee in the absence of a lens profile? I haven't had a lot of luck using the vignette correction sliders because I find it hard to see the effects in the image as I am moving them.
